Racing SA to launch Thorough Care Month

Racing SA is excited to launch Thorough Care SA Month in June.

Thorough Care Month will celebrate retired racehorses across the state and continue Racing SA’s commitment in thoroughbred horse welfare before, during and after their racing careers.

Thorough Care Month will highlight the understanding and awareness among the wider thoroughbred racing community regarding best-practice in equine welfare while communicating our mission, goals and achievements in equine welfare.

It will also continue to grow transparency of equine welfare practices within the thoroughbred racing industry.

Some of the initiatives include a new Off The Track Seniors Appreciation Pack for horses 12 years and over who have spent four years or more in the system.

“We launched Thorough Care SA back in early 2021 and Thorough Care Month is an opportunity to celebrate the OTT thoroughbred,’’ Racing SA’s Equine Welfare Officer John Cornell said.

“The horse is at the heart of everything we do in South Australian thoroughbred racing and it always has been. The welfare of our participants – our animals and our people – is an absolute priority,’’ he said.
