Weekend Wrap: Karacasu Melbourne Bound, Overall claims another Cup

Richard and Chantelle Jolly have Melbourne in their sights with Karacasu after his impressive return to winning form at Murray Bridge on the weekend.

Karacasu made light work of his rivals winning by 4.5 lengths in what was his first victory since his two-year-old season and continued the strong form line out of the Group 2 Tobin Bronze Stakes during the Adelaide Racing Carnival.

Tobin Bronze winner Seradess won again in the Group 3 Proud Miss Stakes while Extremely Lucky, who finished fifth, has also won impressively since.

Karacasu was the first leg of a double for jockey Jake Toeroek in combination with the Jolly stable when Starts With Hello justified his short quote to score.

Toeroek shared riding honours with Angus Chung and Sophie Logan while up and coming trainer Aaron Bain’s Toyetic continued his solid form winning his fourth race from his past five starts.

It was the start of a rare feet with the dual code horseman also producing Double O Heaven to win the opening race at Globe Derby Park later in the day.

Lachlan Overall continued his association with Grinzinger Star winning Saturday’s Hawker Cup.

It was Overall second country feature on the Kylie McKerlie-trained galloper after winning the Streaky Bay Cup back in March, with fellow apprentices Lizzie Annels and Alana Livesey both having riding doubles.

Meanwhile over the border the Adelaide Racing Carnival form stood up with Hopon Harry winning at Caulfield.

The Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas galloper, who was headed for Hong Kong before failing a vet check, was runner-up behind Illation in the Adelaide Guineas before winning with Craig Newitt in the saddle.

Clever Man continued his big campaign adding the Millicent Cup to his Mount Gambier Cup feature on Sunday.

While SA trained horses won three of the seven races at Mildura with John Hyam’s Tavikat, City Beats (Gordon Richards and Damien Moyle) and Byron Cozamanis’ Sea Witness all successful
