Dalasan hoping to break drought in RA Lee

It has been 754 days since he last tasted victory but if races were decided on class alone, Dalasan will be winning the Group 3 R A Lee Stakes at Morphettville on Saturday.

The Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas-trained entire hasn’t been in the winner’s stall since his Chairman’s Stakes victory at Morphettville in 2020.

But he returns to his home track, where he’s won four of six races and finished second in the other two, having competed at Group 1 level at 16 of his last 17 starts.

And the fact he hasn’t won for a long time means Dalasan is perfectly weighted with just 55kg.

“He escapes any penalties for a horse that has been around the mark in some very good races,’’ Gluyas said.

Dalasan finished fifth behind Mr Brightside in the Group 1 Doncaster at Randwick in April before running fourth behind Think It Over in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes on a bottomless track and Gluyas said it was a matter of getting the horse home and in the right place both physically and mentally for Saturday.

“We bought him back, nursed him through the travel,’’ Gluyas said.

“He had a week or so to find himself and has been quite bright since,’’ he said..

And the horse ticked the final box with a nice jump-out at Morphettville last Tuesday.

“We’re happy with him, he loves his work,’’ Gluyas said.
