Kemalpasa set for William Reid Stakes

Richard and Chantelle Jolly are taking their red-hot form on the road this weekend.

Coming off four winners from four runners at Morphettville last weekend, the stable head to Melbourne with top sprinter Kemalpasa who tackles the $1m William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley.

A sticky wide barrier drawn in gate 12 hasn’t helped their claims with Kemalpasa, who is marked a $15 chance with tab.com.au behind exciting unbeaten mare Marabi who dominates betting as a $1.65 favourite.

“The map doesn’t look great for him,’’ Jolly said.

“There isn’t much you can do about now, he’ll have to try and roll forward and hopefully get some cover,’’ he said.

Jolly said he’s unphased by the fact Kemalpasa has never been around Moonee Valley before.

“The track won’t worry him,’’ Jolly said.

“He’s been around Port Lincoln and Mindarie-Halidon so I don’t think the Valley will be an issue,’’ he said.

An impressive first-up win in the Listed Durbridge Stakes beating Behemoth, Kemalpasa has overcome a slight setback that forced him to miss the Newmarket Handicap at Flemington.

“He just had a foot abscess,’’ Jolly said.

“It meant he missed a couple of days work, but he was very fit at the time, and he obviously had the trial at Murray Bridge last week in preparation for this,’’ he said.

The stable has four runners at Morphettville on Saturday, but Jolly will be 700km with Korodon trying to claim consecutive Streaky Bay Cups.

“It’s a great weekend over there,’’ Jolly said.

“We’ve got about seven or eight of us going over and hopefully he can win the Cup again thisn year,’’ he said.
