Kemalpasa to lock horns with Behemoth again

Two of South Australian racing’s heavy hitters will lock horns again in Saturday’s $107,250 Listed Durbridge Stakes (1100m) at Morphettville.

Behemoth and Kemalpasa will do battle for a third time, the latter again the underdog at $3.30 with tab.com.au with Behemoth a $1.85 favourite.

Kemalpasa won the 2019 Durbridge Stakes, then run in October, before running second to Behemoth in last year’s edition.

The pair also clashed in the 2020 Group 3 Spring Stakes, with Kemalpasa finishing third behind Behemoth with fellow South Aussie Dalasan splitting the two.

Behemoth also beat home Kemalpasa in the Group 1 Goodwood earlier in the year.

Richard Jolly said it was hard to gauge just how well Kemalpasa was going, but said he’d be surprised if the winner came outside the favoured pair.

“He’s had a jump out, that was the only one they missed filming that day at Morphettville,’’ Jolly said.

“Jake (Toeroek, jockey) said he went well, Chantelle (Jolly, co-trainer) said he went well, I was on the Gold Coast so I honestly can’t say much about the jump out but I can’t fault his work and he’s there to win.

And can he finally turn the tables.

“History is against him, but in saying that I’d be surprised if anything outside him or Behemoth can win the race,’’ he said.
