Dexelation ready to bounce back at Morphettville

Richard and Chantelle Jolly will keep Dexelation in Adelaide as he tries to bounce back to winning at Morphettville on Saturday.

The six-yar-old has been a model of consistency this campaign placed behind top-tier sprinting stablemate Kemalpasa in the Group 3 Irwin Stakes back in April before running second in both the Listed Wangoom at Warrnambool and $100,000 Golden Topaz at Swan Hill, his latest finishing on the heels of the placegetters in the Group 3 Sir John Monash Stakes at Caulfield.

Richard Jolly said a wide gate in Melbourne was the reason behind bypassing the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes.

“Drawing the outside in weight-for-age class looked a bit tough,’’ Jolly said.

“He’s been racing in pretty good company, he just can’t quite get there,’’ he said.

Despite a lengthy campaign and plenty of interstate travel, Jolly said the horse was showing no signs of stopping.

“He doesn’t alter, he’s a quiet horse who eats everything,’’ Jolly said.

“He does use an excess energy due to his quiet nature,’’ he said.

He faces a wide gate and will have to carry the top weight but is aided by the three kilogram claim for apprentice Scarlet So. Dexelation is marked a $5 chance with tab.com.au behind the unbeaten Pindaric who is a $3 favourite ahead of Street Tough ($3.40) who was still in the field despite tackling Friday’s $100,000 Mildura Cup.

“I’m glad Street Tough has gone to Mildura, Michael Hickmott’s horse (Pindaric) is obviously unbeaten but is getting up in class,’’ Jolly said assessing the race.

“He’s weighted to what he’s been doing, but with the claim he gets in OK.

“It’s also the first time he’s hit a wet track this time around which he’s excelled at in the past

“We haven’t been able to get him on a wet track, every week he’s been racing it’s been dry and then wet the following week,’’ he said.

Jolly said he expects youngster Keep Reading to take plenty of beating in the opening race on the card following an encouraging debut when runner-up at Gawler.

“He’s a nice horse, we thought he’d go close at his first run,’’ Jolly said.

“I thought the winner (Taunting) improved a lot to win again last time, our bloke has the race experience behind him now and the good barrier looks ideal,’’ he said.
