Trip away to spark success

David Jolly is looking towards the Ballarat Synthetic track to spark talented mare Trip back to winning form.

The Goolwa horseman had the mare nominated at both Ballarat and Caulfield this weekend, but getting her back on top of the ground is his preferred option.

Trip was runner-up first-up from a break before running fifth behind Trygve and then fourth behind La Richesse. Jolly said he was hoping a trip away could help the mare regain her mojo.

"I think we'll send her to the synthetic if we can,'' Jolly said.

"But we have to try devise a way of getting her there at the moment.

"Normally we go over on a Thursday night and race the Saturday, so we're in the process of working that out now,'' he said.

Jolly said the reasoning for looking interstate was to try and get the horse back on a fast surface,

"She needs the quick ground so that's why I am keen to go,'' Jolly said.

"She's predominantly a better track horse and we haven't really been able to get on that sort of ground.

"Things haven't quite gone to plan this time in work, her runs have been satisfactory, but she hasn't been able to get into that zone so hopefully the trip away might help with that,'' he said.

In contrast, he's likely to keep impressive last start Morphettville winner Larimer Street in Adelaide as he looks towards the Listed Lightning Stakes at the back end of the season.

"I think he'll stay here,'' Jolly said.

"I want to run him in the Lightning,'' he said.

Jolly said his impressive last-start win came after learning from his SA debut.

"I thought he could run well first-up but we worked out he needs to be covered up early in his races,'' Jolly said.

"Melbourne is appealing, but looking ahead to the Lightning, it might be better to keep him here at home,'' he said.
