Hurdle’s massive month continues

Ryan Hurdle continued a massive month of March with four winners across two SA meetings on the weekend.

Hurdle has ridden winners at the past seven meetings and boasts 10 winners from 38 rides in March at a strike-rate of 27 per cent.

And he had a day out at Morphettville with three winners and a second from just four rides.

Hurdle won the opening race aboard Exalted Craftsman for Grant Young before they combined later in the day with Exalted Beast.

It was a perfect, patient ride board Exalted Beast, settling just better in midfield from their inside draw before proving too strong in the run to the line to defeat Monteferrante and Dreamed.

Hurdle said the race panned out as well as he could have expected.

“I was worried about being three back the fence pre-race, but he lobbed in a nice rhythm,” Hurdle said.

“With the blinkers on for the first time I was worried he might get rocking on me, but it worked out perfect.

“Grant has his horses going so well at the moment, it’s good to get the job done.”

Hurdle went close to making it four wins from as many rides, charging home into second place in the last race on the card aboard Bar Gem. However, the outsider just couldn’t reel in impressive grey Neodium, who made it four wins from his past five starts for the Phillip Stokes stable.

Hurdle capped his big weekend when he got $31 chance Zag up at Bordertown on Sunday for Tom Gilcrist.

And the Bordertown meeting saw Emily Finnegan return to the winners’ stall for the first time in nine months when she scored on Pewter for Sue Murphy.

Finnegan, 27, had been sidelined following knee surgery and only return to race riding at Balaklava on Wednesday before her breakthrough win.

The win gave Murphy a race-to-race double and her third winner on the seven-race card.
