Carnival a success – from all racing metrics

The information is in and it’s official – the 2020 Adelaide Autumn Carnival was an outstanding success, from all racing metrics, as the graphic below shows.

The social and digital engagement numbers, TV viewing figures and race statistics (including total number of starters) all paint the picture.

The carnival was held at Morphettville under unique COVID-19 conditions, however the post-carnival data, plus the thrilling feature race days, illustrate the 2020 triumph.

“Highlighted by SA trainer Will Clarken’s maiden Group 1 victory, there were highlights spread across the three lead-in weeks and then the three weeks of the carnival proper,” said Thoroughbred Racing South Australia (TRSA) CEO Nick Redin.

“Local success across the six weeks with Bella Vella, Dalasan, Gytrash and the story around Sunlight have made it a carnival to remember, probably the best in decades.

“Interstate success to Victorian jockeys Damien Thornton, with his first win in a Group 1, and a strong showing from John Allen was a sound return for the four weeks they had to do to take part in Adelaide.”

Nick said Channel Seven’s decision to broadcast Adelaide’s three Group 1 weekends, hosted by Bruce McAvaney, was “testament to the quality of racing delivered”.
