Clark ready for her Singapore assignment

Premiership leading jockey and last year’s TAB Apprentice Academy Dux, Raquel Clark will leave for Singapore on Sunday for a three week stint after claiming last year’s Academy top honour.

Clark is well and truly on top of her game at the moment and more importantly on top of both the State and Metro Jockey Premierships. She’s notched up 123 wins this season in South Australia which is 49 ahead of her closest rival in Todd Pannell. She’s also one win ahead of Jamie Kah in the Metropolitan Standings and nine ahead of Jason Holder who looks her main rival following Kah’s departure to Victoria earlier this year.

Clark will have six opportunities to extend that lead on Saturday at Morphettville which could give her a nice bit of breathing room before her three weeks away in Singapore.

To put her success in perspective, Clark is fourth in the overall Australian Jockey’s Premiership with 127 wins at a 21.4% strike-rate around the country with only William Pike, Greg Ryan and James McDonald ahead of her. She leads star hoops like Tommy Berry, Kerrin McEvoy and Damien Oliver.

The 2018/19 season really has been one to remember for Clark who has claimed four Listed wins including the Murray Bridge Cup on Von Costa Glass, the Birthday Cup with Wasabi Bob, the Cinderella Stakes on Lady Naturaliste and the Nitschke Stakes aboard East Indiaman. She also rode in her first Group 1 race, the SA Derby aboard Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas’ Star Status.

During Clark’s three weeks in Singapore, she’ll be based with Shane Baertschiger who has looked after many of our recent Dux winners in their time at Kranji.

Clark is set to feature in six race meetings in Singapore on Friday 31 May, Saturday 1 June, Friday 7 June, Sunday 9 June, Friday 14 & Saturday 15 June. She then returns back to Adelaide on Sunday 16 June.

She told Racing.com’s Grace Ramage that she was looking forward to the opportunity that awaits her in Singapore.

“I love their style of racing over in Singapore. I can’t wait to ride with different jockeys and on different horses; it will only improve me.”

In recent years names like Kah, Finnegan and Poon have made the journey to Singapore but Clark will be looking for a stint like Matthew Poon had two years back where he rode six winners, including a Group 3 win.

With six weeks left in the season upon Clark’s return she’ll be hoping to add a few more City winners to her name to cap of a truly memorable 2019.

“I just hope when I get back the winners keep rolling and I can secure the Premiership.”
