Spring Selections: Victoria Derby Day

With four Group 1s on the card this Saturday, our tipsters dissect the best day of racing during spring!

Thanks again to Racing.com's Adam McGrath and James Jordan, the voice of South Australian racing Terry McAuliffe and The Advertiser's Lincoln Moore and Ben Scadden.

Group 1 Coolmore Stakes

Adam McGrath: Jukebox - Three-year-old colt by Snitzel has an impeccable record and hasn't put in a bad run yet. The barrier was the different last time so I'm willing to forgive. He handled the straight well last time so I'm expecting a good run again at each-way odds.

James Jordan: Viridine - Slight worry about Gate 1 but you'll get a look at the pattern in Race 3 so hold off with your bets until then.

Terry McAuliffe: Trapeze Artist - Has been kept fresh by Gerald Ryan since a brilliant win in the Group 1 Golden Rose in Sydney back in September. Has a booming finish and expecting the son of Snitzel to be hard to hold out.

Lincoln Moore: Merchant Navy - Freshened up for this after his Golden Rose run. Previous form very good, blinkers on the should be suited down the straight.

Ben Scadden: Catchy - Arguably the toughest race on the program and tough to line up Sydney form. I'm going on her Danehill Stakes win this track and trip three starts back.

Group 1 Myer Classic

Adam McGrath: Shoals - She the best bet of the day for me. She was super last start when beaten by Aloisia and those formlines are the strongest going around. She's a winner at the track and this race looks ideal for her.

James Jordan: Silent Sedition - Gets a lovely run from the gate and her form is building towards a win.

Terry McAuliffe: Global Glamour - Coming off a game win in the Tristarc at Caulfield. Unbeaten in two runs at the mile, she is drawn perfectly in gate three and goes forward and makes her own luck.

Lincoln Moore: Silent Sedition - Smart mare ready to fire after two very good runs back from a break. perfectly drawn.

Ben Scadden: Global Glamour - I loved her Tristarc Stakes win at Caulfield last time out. She should race handy from gate three and give you a great sight.

Group 1 Victoria Derby

Adam McGrath: Astoria - Colt by Street Cry impressed me last start, working home nicely on a day where that was against the pattern. From the barrier he should get a lovely run and Damian Lane is in as good as form as any.

James Jordan: Sully - Will be very strong late and think Flemington will suit him a lot.

Terry McAuliffe: Sully - Have loved the way this guy has progressed towards the Derby. In an in form stable and with the services of Hugh Bowman, he can give this a shake.

Lincoln Moore: Ocean's FourteenHeld-up at a crucial stage in the Geelong Classic and looks a horse who should thrive with the extra trip and big surrounds of Flemington.

Ben Scadden: Tangled - He was beaten a lip by Ace High at Group 1 level two starts back then stuck to his guns last time. Gives the impression he'll thrive over the 2500m.

Group 1 Kennedy Mile

Adam McGrath: Tosen Stardom - The performance in the Rupert Clarke was one that caught the eye moving forward. He showed that class in the Toorak an in an open race I'm happy to follow him as we know the class that he brings to the track every start.

James Jordan: Shillelagh- I think Chris Waller has worked her out this time in. Savaged the line versus bias last start.

Terry McAuliffe: Tosen Stardom - Sticking with the former Japanese horse after his dominant win in the Group 1 Toorak at Caulfield recently.

Lincoln Moore: Tosen Stardom - Form has been excellent this time in and looked awesome coming off the speed to win easily last time. Can win again.

Ben Scadden: Egg Tart - Forget she went around in the Toorak. Flemington suits her to a tee and she gets the services of superstar jockey Kerrin McEvoy. She'll be roaring home carrying just 52kg.
