Viddora Leads the SA Chances on Cox Plate Weekend

Lloyd Kennewell’s super talented mare Viddora returns to Moonee Valley tomorrow night to contest the Group 1 Manikato Stakes. Viddora was pipped on the post by She Will Reign in the Group 1 Moir Stakes and after a month off Kennewell has her primed to claim her first Group 1 after back to back seconds.

Joe Bowditch will partner Viddora again tomorrow and has never missed a place at the Valley aboard the mare in three starts. Bowditch is in the form of his career already notching up 21 wins this season while he is currently striking at 24% this month with 10 wins from 43 starts.

South Australian Horse of the Year Hey Doc will also line up in the Manikato for Tony McEvoy and Luke Currie. Hey Doc was last seen in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes over 1600m at Flemington but will drop back in distance to 1200m for Friday’s feature. Hey Doc is undefeated at two starts at Moonee Valley, with the highlight being victory in the 2016 Group 2 Stutt Stakes.

Everest runner-up Vega Magic is the firm favourite for the Manikato at $2.20 with UBET while Viddora is currently rated a $17 chance and Hey Doc at $21.

Joe Bowditch will get an early look at the Moonee Valley surface on Friday when he partners Tintagel Rocker for Oakbank trainer John Dunn in Race 5, the 955m 55 Second Challenge. The 9-year-old gelding has won his last two starts, both at Port Lincoln but is a long shot in the race at $51. The John Macmillan trained Mile High will also line-up in this race and the gelding has been in great form winning three of his last five starts. He will be ridden by Craig Williams and is a $8.50 chance in a very open race.

Earlier in the night, Tony McEvoy’s Fox Hall is the firm favourite in Race 3 after his strong win on Cranbourne Cup Day and the start prior he ran second behind the ret-hot Steel Frost at Morphettville.

Jon O’Connor’s consistent galloper Tabbing will line up in Race 4 and tackle some fellow talented three-year-olds over the 1000m. Tabbing has run third in his last two outings at Morphettville and will be ridden by champion jockey Damien Oliver.

On Saturday, Tony McEvoy has five runners on the card including first starter Faroe (Race 1), talented filly Roomooz (Race 4), Stakes placed Mintha (Race 7), English import Calderon (Race 8) and his Cox Plate runner Royal Symphony (Race 9).

Phillip Stokes backs up his three-year-old Eclair Sunshine in Race 3 after a luckless fourth last week’s Listed Gothic Stakes. On his best form he is a serious chance to take out the Group 3 Telstra Stakes and will be partnered by talented youngster Regan Bayliss who rode him when he narrowly went down to Royal Symphony at Flemington.

After her second placing behind Darren Weir’s Savaheat in the Listed Hill Smith Stakes, Glam Guru will line up in the Group 2 Fillies Classic with Damien Oliver aboard. The Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas trained filly has two wins to her name and is a filly on the up but this will be the toughest race she has contested. She is rated an $8 chance with UBET.
