Blue Sapphire Stakes Day: South Australian Chances

The Caulfield Cup Carnival continues on Wednesday with Blue Sapphire Stakes Day and there are plenty of South Australian horses and jockeys making the trip across the border for the day.

Race 3 - Alannah Hill Plate

Danger Deal – Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas | Clare Lindop ($19 with UBET)

A talented and consistent gelding from the Macdonald and Gluyas yard who broke his maiden status first-up at Morphettville in September before running sixth behind Muraqeeb at Moonee Valley on Moir Stakes night. He ran third in his only outing at Caulfield in the VOBIS Sires Stakes behind Pure Scot earlier this year and Clare Lindop will travel to Melbourne to partner him.

Race 4 - Ladbrokes Handicap

Boggoms – Phillip Stokes | Noel Callow ($16 with UBET)

The Phillip Stokes trained gelding will step out to the 1400m for the first time in his career on Wednesday after running on quite well for third a fortnight ago behind Dollar for Dollar. He's a super consistent horse who has only missed a place twice in his thirteen start career. Noel Callow will take the ride from barrier nine.

Steel Frost – Will Clarken | Todd Pannell ($4.20 with UBET)

The gelding is undefeated since joining the Will Clarken stable earlier this year and won his last start at Caulfield on Underwood Stakes Day. The start prior he defeated Fox Hall and Captain Duffy at Morphettville who have both gone on to win races since then. He stays at the 1400m for the third time in a row and has a sensational 7:4-1-0 record over the trip. After riding him in his last three starts, Todd Pannell will make the trip over to Caulfield to ride and will be looking to maintain his unbeaten record aboard him.

Race 6 - Group 3 Blue Sapphire Stakes

Over Exposure – Tony McEvoy | Luke Currie ($14 with UBET)

The talented colt from the McEvoy stable was an impressive winner on debut on Balaklava Cup Day and then ran on strongly for third behind Muraaqeb at Moonee Valley. He is up in class from his last run but the McEvoy stable is having a great season so far and he should be very competitive in this race.

Race 7 - Listed italktravel Stakes

So You Too - Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas | Damien Oliver ($7.50 with UBET)

The Macdonald & Gluyas trained So You Too was well supported last start at Moonee Valley where a perfectly timed run from Jeff Lloyd saw the gelding defeat Suspense by a head. He has a magnificent 8:3-2-2 record over 1200m, which includes a third in the Group 3 Euclase Stakes. Champion jockey Damien Oliver will take the ride on him and should be a great lightweight chance in a quality field.

Race 8- thebigscreencompany.com.au Handicap

Silvera – Tony McEvoy | Jamie Kah ($3.40 with UBET)

The Listed Morphettville Guineas winner has recaptured his early three-year old form this preparation, winning his first two runs back from a spell. He contested the Group 1 Victorian Derby last year and the step out to 1700m will only help his chances in this race. Jamie Kah has ridden him in both victories this preparation and will stick with him on Wednesday. Interestingly the McEvoy/Kah combination are striking at 43.5% this season with 10 wins from 23 starts.
