TRSA Welcomes Select Committee’s Decision

Thoroughbred Racing SA (TRSA) has welcomed today’s announcement by the Parliamentary Select Committee recommending that jumps racing should continue in South Australia.

TRSA Chair Frances Nelson said the process had enabled the racing industry to present its position in detail and in context.

“There can be a great deal of emotion at certain times around jumps racing and the Committee’s process ensured everyone had the chance to consider the facts in a measured and evidentiary way,” she said.

“While we are yet to review all aspects of the Committee’s Report, most of the recommendations are already in place or are being reviewed. The result is very good for the industry and for the breeders, owners, trainers and jockeys who invest so much care, time and energy into their horses.

“While tabling various recommendations, it is also a strong vote of confidence in the rigorous approach to safety taken by Thoroughbred Racing SA stewards and our clubs.

“We are naturally very pleased with the outcome and would like to thank the members of the Select Committee for their approach and diligence on such an important issue.”
