A record 33,806 people turned out to see a thrilling finish to the SKYCITY Adelaide Cup on Monday 12 March when race favourite Gallic just nosed out Lacey Underall to take line honors.

A sunny day in the high 20’s confirmed for a second year that the move of the Adelaide Cup from May to March was the right choice with meteorology statistics showing that a raceday in March to be a drier, warmer likelihood than in May. Shorter dresses and fascinators were the popular fashion choice of the day with breezy conditions proving a little challenging for the former.

The new addition of The Platinum Marquee proved to be a hit with punters enjoying opulent surroundings including a butler, shoe shine and a very “racey” cabaret and fashion parade. The Nova breakfast crew of Fitzy, Jules and Lisa - with good mate Dave Gleeson from The Screaming Jets - gave their nod of approval to the new marquee as did Gen Meegan from the Sunday Mail and the crew from Adelaide Confidential.

Adelaide United’s Ross Aloisi was spotted next door in the Westfield Fashion Marquee while S.A.’s Redbacks enjoyed their “Mad Monday” in the pumping surrounds of the Diva Lounge. The Diva Lounge was also the venue of choice for punters after the last race and continued to grind into the night before revelers made their way to the official after parties at SKYCITY Adelaide and Marina Pier at Glenelg.

For a second year in a row the younger YC Playtime Party sold out well before the raceday started with many punters vowing to book early for the next YC event.

The next major feature racedays are the Clare Easter Emerald, Oakbank Easter Carnival and Penola Cup at Easter with the SAJC’s next big event being the Ladies’ Day-themed Robert Sangster Stakes / Schweppes Oaks Raceday on Sat, April 21 and Super Sunday Raceday on May 6.
