The Port Lincoln Racing Club dates back to the early 1920's with popular picnic styled race meetings conducted at Coomunga, land that is now rich in agricultural produce to the region.

The Port Lincoln and North Shields Racing Club relocated to its present location in 1946 with thoroughbred racing today conducted under the business name of Port Lincoln Racing Club Incorporated.

Ravendale Park Racecourse, situated on 36.88 hectares is located on Proper Bay Road, four (4) kilometres south of the ciy's CBD. Picturesque and scenic views of Proper Bay provide an attractive backdrop for patrons from a variety of vantage positions on the racecourse.

The race clubs prestigious Port Lincoln Cup Carnival held annually in March is a major highlight of the clubs racing season. This week long event provides patrons with two traditional days of racing, Tuesday and Thursday, combined with a host of popular non raceday activities throughout the carnival period.

Apart from being hailed as the region's major sporting event of the year, the Cup Carnival attracts large crowds providing the city of Port Lincoln with a considerable and significant revenue injection. The race club is today regarded as one of the states leading regional country racing clubs that continues to play an important role in the future growth and development of thoroughbred racing in South Australia.

The Area

Port Lincoln boasts one of the world's largest protected natural harbours, an area three times the size of Sydney Harbour. Due to the insulating effect of the surrounding ocean waters, Port Lincoln experiences a delightful mediterranean climate. Being both a popular tourist destination and a major commercial centre for the rest of Eyre Peninsula, the city of Port Lincoln can service every imaginable need of the visitor.

Port Lincoln is homeport to the world's largest fishing fleet with tuna and marine aquaculture the city's primary industry. With an estimated annual turnover of $330 million the tuna industry is also the city's largest employer. Farming and agriculture are also vibrant export industries.

Per capita, Port Lincoln has one of the highest income levels in South Australia. The city's population base is aging, due primarily to the annual seasonal climate, pristine location and present lifestyle. The growth factor for business and investment opportunities are attractive to individuals and families which has further enhanced the city's reputation as a leading region in South Australia.

The City of Port Lincoln (Population 15,000) is 655 kilometres north from Adelaide on National Highway 1, and then on to Alternative Highway 1, south-west of Port Augusta.

Port Lincoln is 250 kilometres by air with a flight time of 40/50 minutes. Regional Express & Airlines of South Australia conduct daily return flights to the city. The airport is located 15 kilometres north of Port Lincoln. P remier Stateliner operates daily Adelaide/Port Lincoln bus services.

Accommodation and Tourism

Along with the great racing action in Port Lincoln, the area boasts some of the most picturesque scenery in Australia. The Port Lincoln Tourist Information Centre has all the information you'll need.

The Racecourse

Situated four kilometres south of the city's CBD. The racecourse occupies 36.88 hectares and includes spectacular views of Proper Bay with a backdrop to the hinterland region of the Lincoln National Park.

SADDLE UP CLUB
(Membership - only $45)

An invitation for people in the 18 - 35 age group to enjoy the thrill that racing offers in a relaxed and exciting atmosphere to socialise with friends while watching the Sport of Kings at a reduced membership fee.

Attending "Saddle Up Club" functions is the perfect way to meet new people whilst in the racing environment, and not just a club for people who are passionate about the races. Our planned functions can be just a good excuse to get dressed up in your best clothes and having a few drinks.

So make sure you're part of this exciting time at the Port Lincoln Racing Club by attending the races and the organised functions planed for Saddle up Club members.

The privileges, duties and obligations of a "Saddle Up Club" member are the same as those of a General Member, but he or she will have no voting rights nor shall he or she be eligible to hold an office of the Club, or nominate a person as a candidate for election to an office of the Club.
