Kimba

The Kimba Racing Club was incorporated in South Australia on 8 November, 1913. The Club's primary goal during this period has been to promote the sport of racing and to provide a social outing for the surrounding districts. The Club currently has 51 active sponsors and has the support of local and interstate patrons.

The Kimba Racing club has achieved an excellent reputation for providing a high quality country race meeting.

In later years the Kimba race meeting has been the venue for the presentation of the awards for horse of the year, jockey of the year and trainer of the year for the Eyre Peninsula Racing Association. The region's main industry is agriculture.

Port Lincoln Racing Club has generously allowed Kimba Racing Club to utilise their facilities for this Cup Day, below is some information about the Port Lincoln Racing Club.

Port Lincoln

The Port Lincoln Racing Club dates back to the early 1920's with popular picnic styled race meetings conducted at Coomunga, land that is now rich in agricultural produce to the region.

The Port Lincoln and North Shields Racing Club relocated to its present location in 1946 with thoroughbred racing today conducted under the business name of Port Lincoln Racing Club Incorporated.

Ravendale Park Racecourse, situated on 36.88 hectares is located on Proper Bay Road, four (4) kilometres south of the ciy's CBD. Picturesque and scenic views of Proper Bay provide an attractive backdrop for patrons from a variety of vantage positions on the racecourse.



The Area

Port Lincoln

Port Lincoln boasts one of the world's largest protected natural harbours, an area three times the size of Sydney Harbour. Due to the insulating effect of the surrounding ocean waters, Port Lincoln experiences a delightful mediterranean climate. Being both a popular tourist destination and a major commercial centre for the rest of Eyre Peninsula, the city of Port Lincoln can service every imaginable need of the visitor.

Port Lincoln is homeport to the world's largest fishing fleet with tuna and marine aquaculture the city's primary industry. With an estimated annual turnover of $330 million the tuna industry is also the city's largest employer. Farming and agriculture are also vibrant export industries.

Per capita, Port Lincoln has one of the highest income levels in South Australia. The city's population base is aging, due primarily to the annual seasonal climate, pristine location and present lifestyle. The growth factor for business and investment opportunities are attractive to individuals and families which has further enhanced the city's reputation as a leading region in South Australia.

The City of Port Lincoln (Population 15,000) is 655 kilometres north from Adelaide on National Highway 1, and then on to Alternative Highway 1, south-west of Port Augusta.

Port Lincoln is 250 kilometres by air with a flight time of 40/50 minutes. Regional Express & Airlines of South Australia conduct daily return flights to the city. The airport is located 15 kilometres north of Port Lincoln. P remier Stateliner operates daily Adelaide/Port Lincoln bus services.

Accommodation and Tourism

The Port Lincoln Racecourse

Situated four kilometres south of the city's CBD. The racecourse occupies 36.88 hectares and includes spectacular views of Proper Bay with a backdrop to the hinterland region of the Lincoln National Park.
