A field of six will face the starter for Sunday’s 2020 Ramsey Bros/Case IH 1900m Lock Cup, including veteran Eye The World, who is aiming for third time lucky, after filling the second and third placings in the past two cups.
The 10-year-old will be ridden by Gary Lo and will receive a significant weight advantage over the top weight, It’s Humphrey, which has been in excellent form this summer. It’s Humphrey finished third over 1390m at Port Lincoln earlier this month, after taking out the 2020 Ceduna Cup, in which Eye The World finished 4.2 lengths astern in third place.
This weekend’s Cup will be It’s Humphrey’s first run on the Lock track.
A likely favourite with punters will be the Byron J Cozamanis-trained Desert Minty, which brings outstanding form into the race. The six-year-old might only boast one win from 30 starts, but its last-start second behind the Mcdonald-Gluyas runner Liberty Lover in a $40,000 event at Morphettville over 2038m – albeit on a heavy track – reads well for Sunday’s assignment.
With just 20 starts under its belt, four-year-old Gotabiton is the baby of the field and has raced on the west coast for almost all its track life.
Rounding out the field are Banri De Hero and Relaxed, both of which boast recent placings. The latter started its racing career in Ballarat and has also raced in Queensland and NSW, including a third placing in a $50,000 race at Randwick back in 2017.
The 2020 Lock Cup is the third leg of the 2020 Bill Holland Series. Notable jockeys in action at the annual meeting include Krystal Bishop, Brendan Sweeney and Claudia Lyons.
