He’s called some of the world’s greatest horses during his time in Singapore and Hong Kong and now Brett Davis will return to his hometown as our state’s leading caller.

Davis will call his first race this Saturday at Gawler and will share calling duties around the state with Tim Edwards.

An Adelaide local, Davis has been away from his hometown for 18 years, spending close to three years in Tasmania and two in Singapore before spending the last 14 years in Hong Kong.

After the departure of Darren Flindell back to Sydney in 2015, Davis stepped up as the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s main caller and has been there since. In that time he’s had the privilege of calling legends of the turf like Maurice, Able Friend and more recently Beauty Generation.

Davis has called over 50 international Group 1 races and finished his time with the HKJC calling their International Race Day on 8 December. His last day calling in Hong Kong was a memorable one with the impressive Japanese trio of Win Bright, Admire Mars and Glory Vase taking out three of the four Group 1 races including the Cup, Mile and Vase.

Back when he was in Adelaide, Davis was a former part-time employee of the TAB and made his race calling debut at the Gawler greyhounds in 1997. He’ll almost come back full circle as he calls the Gawler Thoroughbred Metropolitan Saturday meeting this weekend.

His experience calling some of the biggest races in the world will be an asset to our local industry especially throughout our Autumn Racing Carnival and on Adelaide Cup Day.
