Two Local Riders Aim for 3 Star Success in the Three Day Event

The Mitsubishi Motors Australian International 3 Day Event is the only one of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and its taking place this weekend right in our own backyard.

For the seventh straight year, TRSA will again sponsor the event held in the Adelaide Parklands and provide additional prizemoney to the leading retired thoroughbred in the 3, 4 and 5 Star categories along with the best Young Rider.

There will be 25 retired thoroughbreds competing over the weekend and 16 in the 3 Star Class. Two of those will be ridden by local riders, Steph Hann and Isabel O’Loughlin who will be hoping to make a name for themselves in their hometown event.

Aldgate local Hann will ride True Celebre in the 3 Star Young Rider event. The duo finished 2nd in last year’s 2 Star Australian Young Rider Championships and were selected to compete in the Oceania Young Rider team in New Zealand earlier this year.

Hann’s mount True Celebre was a two start winner over his racing career, winning races at Kyneton and Seymour way back in 2007. He could even be considered a proper South Australian local, having seven starts in SA when trained here over a decade ago by Mark Kavanagh.

Isabel O’Loughlin will also compete in the 3 Star event with her mount, Lagoes Choice. Originally known as Duluth in racing circles, the horse retired a maiden after six starts before turning to a career in eventing. The duo will look to improve on their finish in last year’s event where they were eliminated during the Cross Country. With another year together under their belt, the two will be one of the ones to watch in 2019.

While there will plenty of support for our two local girls, there will also be plenty of eyes on Hazel Shannon and her horse Willingapark Clifford. The two time 5 Star class winners will be looking to make history as the only female to win the same 5 Star event three times on the same horse.

The duo claimed last year’s event by 2.7 points in a narrow victory over Amanda Pottinger and Just Kidding and with a potential 2020 Olympics berth on the line, the stakes will be even higher in this year’s top level event.

The Three Day Event runs from Thursday 14th to Sunday 17th November in the Adelaide Parklands.
