First race at the Mount Gambier redeveloped track

In a boost for the South East, racing resumes this Friday at the redeveloped Mount Gambier Racing Club after a 16 month break, thanks in part to $1.5 million funding from the Federal Governments Building Better Regions Fund.

This meeting will be a lead in to next month's Scott Group of Companies Mount Gambier Gold Cup to be held on Friday May 10.

The big question is, who will have the honor of winning the first race in the O'Brien Cabinets Sabois Maiden Plate over 1500 metres at 12.45pm? Four localy trained Mount Gambier horses will contest this race with trainers Richard Nicholson, Ricky Bruhn, Peter Hardacre and Bob & Kane Post vying for this mantle.

From a jockey perspective, Jeff Maud is going for a unique double having won the last race on the old track in December 2017, can he win the first on the new track?

Free entry is being offered to all patrons for the meeting on what looks to be a beautiful Autumn day.
