Magic Weekend for South Aussies on the Gold Coast

It was a huge weekend on the Gold Coast for Tony McEvoy and Lloyd Kennewell as their stables took out two of the major races on Magic Millions Raceday.

McEvoy’s outstanding filly Sunlight blew the capacity field away with her blistering speed to claim the Magic Millions 2YO Classic. The race favourite hit the front at the 150m and stormed home to win by two lengths to collect a cool $1.2 million for her connections.

In the final race of the day, Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes winner Viddora continued her winning ways when she claimed the Magic Millions Snippets. Viddora displayed her trademark turn of foot at the turn to salute in the race she ran second in last year to net her connections $600,000.

Viddora is tipped to run in the UBET Classic and Darley Goodwood over the Adelaide Festival of Racing in May before a possible tilt at the Everest.

While McEvoy and Kennewell both won big on the Gold Coast, they also spent big at the Magic Millions sales over weekend as they look to add a few more stars to their stables.

McEvoy-Mitchell Racing were involved in the purchase of 23 lots including spending $600k on the sister of Sunlight and $700k on a colt out of Fastnet Rock and Sister Havana.

Kennewell purchased six lots on the Gold Coast including an I Am Invincible filly for $250k and a filly out of Lord Kanaloa and Classic Curl for $280k.

Leading Adelaide trainer, Phillip Stokes also purchased six lots including two fillies out of Group 1 winner Sizzling and a colt out of Brazen Beau and an ex-galloper of Richard Jolly's, I’m Discreet.

Up and coming trainers, Ashton Downing and Niki O’Shea purchased a $45k More Than Ready and Rose Bay filly while Will Clarken spent $60k on a filly out of Street Boss and Bonjour.

The Adelaide Magic Millions sale will take place on 13-14 March as more South Australian trainers will look to find their stable's next superstar.
