Dylan Caboche Offers Unreserved Apology

South Australian apprentice jockey, Dylan Caboche, 22, today offered an unreserved apology for his actions at Port Lincoln racecourse yesterday, when he struck his mount She’s Reneldasgirl in the vicinity of the girth area prior to the running of race 3.

Caboche said, “I want to genuinely, sincerely and unreservedly apologize to everyone for my actions yesterday. I understand what I did was completely unacceptable. My apology goes to the horse’s connections, my fellow jockeys here in SA and nationally, Thoroughbred Racing SA, the racing public and to the wider community in general.”

“Any explanation dealing with why it happened can’t possibly condone what I did. I’m just so disappointed in myself. Obviously, I understand and accept that no matter how difficult my mount was, it can’t justify what I did.”

Caboche is extremely well regarded by the SA racing community and has had great success since moving from Victoria some years ago.

His employer, Morphettville based trainer Ryan Balfour said, “I have seen the incident and was shocked. Dylan has had 1500 race rides and would have ridden many thousands of track gallops for me. All I have ever seen from Dylan is that he has complete respect and a genuine affection for the horses he works with.”

“This moment of madness and frustration is totally unacceptable but completely out of character with everything I have seen through the time I’ve employed him. Dylan and I will work closely with the TRSA Apprentice School to deal with what happened and why it happened so there can never be a repeat.”

Australian Jockeys Association Chairman Des O’Keeffe said that he would recommend to his Directors that a Code of Conduct hearing be conducted into what occurred, “Unfortunately, what occurred yesterday does no service to Australia’s 680 jockeys. We have close to 200,000 starters annually in Australia and an incident like this may occur once a year, but that is once too often. I understand Dylan is a young man with until now an impeccable record in this area, but we need to make it clear that incidents such as yesterday’s will not be condoned or tolerated”.
