Macdonald & Gluyas spend big at the Adelaide Magic Millions sale

The Adelaide Magic Millions Yearling Sales have wrapped up for another year and the local Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas stable has topped the list of big spenders over the three-day event.

Macdonald Gluyas Racing spent $190,000 on Lot 145, an All Too Hard – Lady Paget colt, the highest price paid for any yearling at the sale. They also bought a $170,000 Stratum – El Milagro colt and a $40,000 Al Maher – Kissable filly.

Many South Australian trainers spent up at the sales with Finniss Lodge (Wayne Francis & Glen Kent), Lloyd Kennewell and McEvoy Mitchell leading the way with five purchases each while Chris Bieg, Gordon Richards and Richard Jolly all took home four yearlings.

The Adelaide sales also proved a popular hunting ground for interstate trainers such as Brendan McCarthy (6), Darren Weir (7), David Brunton (3), Mark Kavanagh (6) Kick Kent (2), Patrick Payne and Gary Portelli (2).

The biggest buyer over the sales period was the Chinese owned Yu Long investments who purchased 15 yearlings.

It was also a very successful event for our local South Australian breeders, with Cornerstone Stud leading the way with 41 sales over the three days. Mill Park and Willow Grove Studs each sold 12 yearlings while Ducatoon Park, Turnagain and Rosden Park also had a successful time at the sales.

If you’ve ever wanted to get into racehorse ownership, there is no better time than now with lots of South Australian trainers buying up at the sales!
